Air. and Airs. W. Davies, Halcombe, leave to-day on an extensive motor tour to tho north. Mrs. J. P- Inncs, of Palmerston North, and her daughter, Airs. Selwyn Colegrove, are visiting Rotorua. Airs. F. J. Oakley and Aliss Beryl Oakley, Rainforth .Street, have been visiting Wellington for a few days and return at the week-end. Mrs. A. W. Young, Carlton Avenue, returned home this week after spending five weeks in Paraparaumu, Lower llutt and Wellington. Mrs. H. Doreen, Argyle Avenue, who has been spending a holiday in Dunedin with her son, Air. S. G. McDonald, has returned home. Aliss Al. Whyte is spending her vacation from Canterbury University College with her parents, Colonel J. H. and Airs. Whyte. Aliss C. AlcKenny, of Pahiatua, Dominion president of tho Registered Nurses’ Association has been in Auckland on Association business. Aladame Winnie Fraser, the New Zealand soprano, who has been in Europe for the last three years, returned from England by the Rotorua. Air. R. Flyger, of Hurau, North Auckland, who was a visitor to the Aokautere jubilee, left by plane yesterday after having been the guest of Air. and Airs. J. Williamson, Taonui. Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Collins, Featherston (says an exchange) have announced the engagement of their eldest daughter, Suzanne, to John, only son of Mr. and Airs. E. W. B. Hornabrook, Masterton. Miss R. Gillies, Alassey Street, Palmerston North, is leaving for Sydney on Tuesday next en route for Rockhampton, Quoensland, where she will be the guest of Airs* S. McDonald for a month or so. In view of their impending departure on a trip to the East, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Spencer, Grey Street, have been much feted at happy “bon voyage” parties, morning, afternoon and evening. Air. and Airs. Spencer leave by the s.s. Tasman from Wellington on Wednesday next and expect to be away about two months. Miss Dorothy Davies, the well-known pianist who visited Palmerston North recently, is visiting Auckland to meet Dr. Artur Schnabel and Frau Schnabel, with whom she was till recently associated in Italy. Dr. and Frau Schnabel are through passengers on the Mariposa to Sydney and are to make an Australian concert tour.

A pleasing incident took place in the Empire Hall on Thursday afternoon, when Air. Thomas Wood, judge of the vocal and instrumental sections of the Manawatu Competitions, paid tribute to the work done by tho official accompanist, Aliss Zeta Loamy, F.T.C.L., LR.S.AI., L.T.C.L. In congratulating Aliss Loamy on her outstanding capabilities, Mr. Wood spoke in glowing terms of her sympathy and understanding towards the young ones. He remarked that both the society and the competitors were fortunate in obtaining the services of one so well qualified for the position.
