Lord Perth, British Ambassador to Italy, who is retiring, has left Rome for London.

Miss L. Sheppard, 8.A., of Palmerston North, and Miss S. Allen, M.A., of New Plymouth, have been appointed assistants iu tho Palmerston North Municipal Library.

Tho Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford) and Cr. A. Grigor have been rc-nppoint-ed by tho Palmerston North City Council as its representatives on the Palmerston North Fire Board.

A resolution of condolence with Mr. J. B. Beale, of Tauranga, a former member of tho Palmerston North City Council, in the death of Iris daughter, was carried by the council on Monday night.

Mr. A. F. Smith, accountant of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Palmerston North, has received notice of his transfer to the Blenheim branch of the company. Mr. (Smith loaves Palmerston North early in May to take up his duties iu Blenhoim. Mr. J. C. Tait, of the Hamilton branch, has now taken up the position of accountant at Pulmcrston North.

At the meeting of the Palmerston North River Board on Monday the chairman, Trustee A. E. Mansford, welcomed Trustee J. llodgens’ return to the board’s meetings, and expressed the wish that his trip to Australia had been pleasant as well as successful. Trustee llodgeus, iu returning thanks, said he had visited every (State except Western Australia aud had seen many interesting things, and met with kindliness everywhere.
