Making up for Import Deficiencies

BOUQUETS AND BRICKBATS Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. An appeal to New Zealanders to help fill the gap caused by import control was issued by the Prime Minister, Rt Hon. M. J. Savage, in addressing the staff of one of three factories he visited in Auckland on Monday. He assured both employers and employees that they would get their equitable share of any increase in production. “We have a long way to go," Mr. Savage safd. “We began by selecting things to come from übroad aud we want you to fill the gap caused by the import restriction. 1 have to see to it that y r ou are not doing this in vain." You have to fill the gap created by import control and it is up to me and the Government to see that you arc not doing it in vain. It is our job to see to it that you are getting your share and we have to co-operate as never before. ’ ’ Mr. Savage added that his job wns clear and Iris conscience was clear, in spito of the “bricks. ’’ He was more confident thau ever before that the people of New Zealand would stand bohind the Government in the building of a nation in the southern seas.
