Feilding Farmers’ Union
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The executive committee of the Feilding branch of x the Farmers’ Union mot yesterday with Air. H. D. Richardson, president, presiding. There were also present Messrs. A. L. Brown, W. G. Booth, H. A. Stewart, L. S. Knight, W. G. Short and V. Short. In connection with the proposal of tho Women’s division that a centennial memorial be erected to commemorate Hitchman’s corner, the meeting appointed the chairman and secretary to confer with the division. The State placement officer, Palmerston North, wrote giving particulars regarding the finding of labour for farmers for seasonal operations, harvesting, etc. Applications were to be made to local postmasters, the placement officer or through the branch secretary. Air. Stewart said the step was one in the right direction and ho hoped that farmers would act as required. The Dominion secretary circularised branches also with the notification that Fon. P. C. Webb, Alinister of Labour, had expressed a wish to co-operate fully with the Farmers’ Union and to this end tho Dominion secretary had replied assuring the Alinister of the appreciation of the union for his offer. Air. Knight said it was pleasing to see that ministerial notico was being taken of the farmers’ labour difficulties, tliero being no doubt that Air. Webb was going tho right way about things. 'Arising out of a letter from a Kimbolton member asking for meetings jn the country, it was decided that tht? secretary communicate with Dr. AlcAleekan, of Palmerston North, asking that ho give an evening address in Feilding in Alarch or April. The Dominion president wrote asking for particulars to be forwarded of any particular stock disease or ailments which may be peculiar to the branch area, the idea being to gain the opinion of farmers in this respect, apart from veterinary or Agriculture Department officials’ investigations. The matter was referred to members for their attention.
