Protest Meeting. Practically every fanner in the Oplki and Makerua Plains area attended a protest meeting in connection with the bobby calf pool. The hall was packed, there hardly being standing room for those present. Mr J. D. Aitchison was voted to the chair and the question of the bobby calf pool was fully discussed. It was contended that only 50 per cent of the farmers in this district were in favour of the pool operating. Protest and indignation was expressed that only a certain number of farmers were notified of the intention to form a pool. A special committee comprising Messrs J. D. Aitchison, G Larsen, J. A. Cooksley and G. J. Wilde were deputed to represent the district at a meeting in Shannon. Gift Eveniruj. Mr and Mrs J. Young, who were recentlv married In Napier, were the guests of honour at a gift evening tendered them by residents of Makerua Plains on Saturday evening last. There was an exceptionally large attendanoe. testifying to the popularity of the Young family, which was one of the first to settle In the district. Dancing and games occupied the greater part of the evening, a novelty waltz being won by Mr and Mrs J. Young. After supper, Mr J. Gosling eulogised the guests of honour and made a presentation of a barometer, on behalf of Hie residents of Lower Opui road. Mr and Mrs Young sat under a large pink and white wedding bell, and the stage had been artistically decorated to tone in wTTh this colour scheme by friends of the happy couple. Miss Ina Jackson presented the bride with a sheaf of spring flowers, after which were opened the many useful gifts which will adorn their future home at Pipiriki. Songs were rendered by MTss Joan Percy, and dancing continued until midnight. The music for the dancing was played by Mr M. Creighton, extras being provided by Mrs V. G. Claridgc. Mr A.
