Further Rioting in Rangoon
BRITISH SOLDIERS BACK TO MANDALAY RANGOON, July 31st. Further rioting in eight districts brought the casualties to 67 killed and 420 injured. The King’s Royal Rifles from Maymyo have arrived at Mandalay and are guarding the market and Pagoda areas. RAINS HELP TO CHECK DISORDERS DISQUIETING CONDITIONS IN PROVINCES Received Monday, Midnight. RANGOON, Aug. 1. Monsoonal rains have helped to check the disorders. Shops have been reopened and public transport partially restored, but disquieting conditions are reported from the provinces. Shwe Hpi, the Mohammedan author of the book insulting Buddhists which led to the rioting, has surrendered to the police.
