Churchmen Anxious
DETERIORATION IN MORAL BASIS OF BRITISH POLICY United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, July 6. The Archbishop of York, nine bishops and other churchmen have issued a statement claiming to represent the multitude of British people. They say that they are anxious regarding the ; moral basis of British foreign policy and rearmament, which they declare has deteriorated because of Britain’s failure to stand by the League of Nations. They do not dissent from Britain’s resorting to war in self-defence, including the safeguard of the Empire, but are anxious lest Britain should drift from moral principles and guide her actions by sheer expediency.
