New Motor-ship
W AIMAK AMA LAUNCHED LONDON, Juno 4. The new motor cargo vessel for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s Australian and New Zealand trades was launched on May 31 at the Belfast yard of Harland and Wolff, Limited, by Miss Sheila Macmillan, daughter of Mr John Macmillan. The vessel was given the Maori name, Wai* marama. The approximate measurements of the vessel are 535 ft. Gin. overall length, and depth 43ft. 6in. Her tonnage will be about 13,000 tons and the load draught 29ft. 6in. She will have large refrigerated cargo space. Twelve passengers in oight singlebedstead and two double-bedstead cabins will be carried and the public rooms will consist of a dining saloon, smoke room and lounge. The accommodation for the crew will be in accordance with, and in advance of, tho recent Board of Trade regulations. They will be berthed amidships and aft in two-berth cabins with cot berths in single tier. The Waimarama will be equipped with the latest devices for navigation and efficiency in control and cargo working.
