Obituary
MR. JOHN D. HOCKING, OF KIWITEA A well known and highly respected settler of the Kiwitea district in Mr. John Dillon Hocking passed away at his residence, “Nga Tawa,” yesterday morning. The late Mr. Hocking, who was in his 69th year, had been in illhealth for some time past and his passing will be deeply regretted among a very wide circle of friends. Before coming to New Zealand to take up land at Kiwitea, the lato Mr. Hocking was in India for some time, and his activities in the sheep raising industry were attended with conspicuous success. He was a leading breeder of the Romney Marsh breed and sheep from his flock were eagerly sought after. Each year at the Feilding ewe fair he offered a select line of twotooths which often topped the market because of their outstanding quality He was a staunch member of the Kiwitea Anglican Church and a settler who was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. Much sympathy will be extended to his widow and family in their bereavement.
