From Our Own Correspondent Mr K. Vile presided over a meeting: of the school committee held on Monday evening - . Correspondence was received from the Bible-in-Schools Leag-ue acquainting the committee of the proposed move to abolish the present practice. It was decided to support the League. A letter from the Education Board, declining to lay down an asphalt play area, was also received. It was decided to pursue the matter further. The head teacher's report stated that the attendance had been well maintained, although there was a drop in the roll number recently. Several minor matters were needing attention, and it was decided to have these done. The chairman reported that the new concrete paths to the bicycle sheds, had been laid down during the holidays. A vote of thanks was accorded those who did this work. A social evening was held last week to celebrate the clearance of the debt on the hall. There was a disappointing attendance. The evening was spent at cards, the winners being Mrs W. G. Robinson and air C. Emery, the runners-up being Mrs C. Emery and Mr McKinnon. During thte evening opportunity was taken to discuss hall affairs and to consider the financial position for the future. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr Ben Franklin; committee, Messrs E. Ingram, K. Vile, G. Robinson, L. Koberstein, F. McKinnon, J. Ellery, W. Robinson. Mr W. Robinson was elected secretary. Appreciative remarks were made of the efforts of the retiring secretary, Mr H. Red path, who had taken over when the position was serious and who had succeeded in reversing the position. Supper concluded a successful meeting. The general opinion semed to be that an effort should be made to have a hall built in keeping with the importance and size of the district and adequate for the needs of the district both now and In the future. It was decided to ascertain the position in regards to the lease of the section and at a latex* date explore possibilities for a new hall. Much sympathy will bo extended to Miss F. Wade in the sudden death of her father, which occurred in Auckland last week. Miss Wade returned from Auckland on Monday. Misses Nellie and Jean Masters have returned from a holiday spent in Hastings. „ , Messrs Bert. Tom and Jack Palmer have returned home after an enjoyable motor tour of the Rotorua and Auckland districts. Mr and Mr 3 A. V. Matthews and famttv leave this week for a motor tour of the Auckland and Rotorua districts. Heavy and continuous rain lias boon experienced for the past fortnight, with the result that the country has been well saturated and drains are practically full. Conditions were so bad at the aerodrome that work was practically suspended for two days. Early on Wednesday morning the district was swept by terrific gusts of wind, accompanied by heavy rain squalls.
