A Noted Singer

(To the Editor.) Sir, —With your kind permission I would like to make public at least one man’s appreciation of the initiative shown by tho ralmerston North Malo Voice Choir in bringing to the musical public of our city a singer of such outstanding ability as Mr. Russell Laurenson. At, various times I have heard this gentleman sing over the radio and as a result have cherished an earnest desire to see and hear him in person. Other cities as far south as Invercargill have been extremely enthusiastic over tho wonderful voice and charming personality of Mr. Laurenson, and now. through the enterprise of our oldest society, the Male Voice Choir, wo of Palmerston North are to have a musical treat on Saturday night. Sir, I am grateful to this society and also disappointed that I cannot show my appreciation in more definite form than by being present‘at that concert, but if this letter should induce others to be present, I will feel I have in some small way helped to do justico to the prospect of a very enjoyable evening In making reference to Mr. Laurenson in this way, I feel I may be detracting from the reputation of other perform ers in the obviously delightful programme, but I would excuse myself on the grounds that the undoubted ability of Miss Myra Sawyer, Alan Loveday and the choir is well known to our public and needs no eulogy from me. The fact that tho concert is an Alan Loveday benefit will no doubt ensure a good attendance, but, worthy as the object is, I sincerely trust our people, will go along to the Opera House on Saturday night, not only with the idea of assisting our young violinist, but also with the certainty of enjoying a rare musical treat. —I am, etc., MUSIC LOVER.
