Value of Building Permits

DECLINE IN SIX MONTHS Figures supplied by the Palmerston i North City Council show that in the si 5 j months ended yesterday the total ! value represented by the building perJmits issued was £128,166, as against a : total for the corresponding period of ; last year of £172,676 —a decline of 1 £44,510. While the permits issued iu | the first six months of this year include those for the new Police Station (£25,477) and the extensions to the Post Office (£23,825), the first six months of 1937 included permits for several large buildings. Apart from May (£67,316), in which the permits for the Post Office additions and the new Police Station were issued, the highest monthly total this year has been £17,849. In the corresponding half of last year the highest monthly total was £61,603, and of that sum four new business premises accounted for £56,744, one permit alone, for a building in Broadway, amounting to no less than £46,000. The total value represented by the building permits issued in June of this year is £17,849. Nine dwellings (including two flats) account for £10,720; five alterations and additions to dwellings, £352; six garages, £148; two new business premises (one in Maire street at a considerable figure), £5446; four alterations and additions to business premises, £950; and two alterations ana additions to public buildings, £233; making 22 permits in all. In the corresponding month last year the total was £38,888, that figure, however, including the permits for 22 State houses at au aggregate of £24,700, private enterprise being responsible for £14,180.
