Run Over by Taxi
INJURED MAORI LYING ON ROAD GISBORNE, May 5. The death occurred at Tokomaru Bay last evening of a Maori watersider, Wi Huihui, who met with an accident under unusual circumstances. A taxi-driver, John Beattie, was travelling along the beach road when he ran over an object on the road. Thinking it was a log, he stopped, with the intention of removing it, but found Huihui lying there, badly injured. Dr. Grant was summoned from Te Puia but was considerably delayed on account of the damage done to the road by slips and floods. Despite medical attention, Huihui succumbed later.
