Umutoi
From Our Own Correspondent.
The first meeting of 1938 of the Bible Class was held on Thursday evening, when eleven former members were present and two new members were welcomed. Owing to the fact that five members would soon be leaving, it was wondered if the class could carry on. However, it was decided to try and do so. Mr Ashworth was proposed as the new leader and Miss O. Hemmings as secretary and treasurer. It was with regret that the class said farewell to their popular leader, Mr Coombridge. He was presented with a buttonhole by Miss Searle. Miss Harkness presented him with a gift from the class. Mr Coombridge feelingly thanked the class and said he would never forget those pleasant little [ meetings around the fireside. Members of the Tennis Club Journeyed to Apiti on Saturday, and though they were defeated, spent a most enjoyable day. A club day is aranged for next Saturday. A large number of deer-stalkers have been haunting the Ruahine ranges during the week-end, despite the misty rain which has been falling. No doubt the fact that the deer are plentiful this season accounts for the enthusiasm shown for this sport. Several good heads have been secured.
