HUTT VALLEY VISIT Fifty-five scouts and twenty scouters left Palmerston North last Saturday morning by the 7.12 a.m. train to pay a return visit to the Hutt Valley. Two years ago a large gathering of scouts from the Hutt Valley visited our city and were billeted by the Scouts here and -we have been looking forward for a long time to the opportunity of paying the return visit which eventuated last Saturday. It is hard for anybody who is not in our great movement to realise what real comradeship exists amongst our boys and the friendships made and the pleasure of this trip will long be remembered.

The Hutt Valley Scouts did all in their power to make our trip thoroughly enjoyable. Two special carriages were reserved on the train for us and on our arrival in Wellington we were met by Scouter Buck and two special buses were waiting to take us to Low r cr Hutt. On arrival at the Scout Hall a large number of scouts were waiting to greet us and it was not long before all billets were arranged and happy groups of boys left for various towns in the Valley, where they were to be entertained for the week-end. The Scouters were all invited to Mr J. E. F. Nogel’s home to a large garden party which had been arranged to give the Scouters an opportunity of meeting the members of the Dominion Executive. Some three hundred Scouters were present from the whole of the Wellington province and a splendid afternoon w r as spent. The Dominion Commissioner, Mr H. Christie was present and it was a splendid opportunity for us all to meet him and his executive officers. A social evening was held later in the Scout Hall and the “Olympic Games" held during the evening were a great success. On Sunday a combined Church Parade was held and several hundred boys in Petone and Lower Hutt attended their own churches. A picnic lunch, on the banks of the Hutt river followed this. We all went to Mr Vogels home for the afternoon and after a splendid tea the whole party left for Wellington and returned to Palmerston North on the excursion train. Before leaving a beautiful picture “The Pathfinder” was presented by the Hutt Valley Scouts to tho Palmerston North Scouts to be hung in the Scout Corner in All Saints’ Church. This trip will long be remembered as one of the most pleasant trips our boys have ever had and never will we forget the trouble taken by our friends to give us a real “Scouty” time., ST. PATRICK’S TROOP REPORT. About eighteen scouts were present at the latest meeting of Saint Patrick’s Troop on Tuesday, March 29. Two games were played “Big Ring” and a new game. The second class Scouts had a go at first class, with some success. Some of the St. Patrick’s Cub Pack will be “going up” into the troop next meeting, about six of them. It has been decided to form a Tenderfoot Patrol which will come into existance most likely on Tuesday next. Six members representing the troop went to Wellington for the return visit of the Mauawatu Scouts. ALL SAINTS’ At our meeting held on Friday, April 1, at 7 p.m. the inspection was won by tho Kingfisher Patrol. Then Mr Callis showed the troop a large photo of the “Pathfinder” which was presented to the Scout corner in the church by the Hutt Valley Scouts. Next he explained for the benefit of new boys the signs used for forming a circle, semi-circle, straight line, patrol in Indian file and in tho usual troop formation. He then gave tho troop practise at using these signs. Next followed a game involving tho measuring of a certain distance after which the patrols went to their corners in order to do tenderfoot and second class w r ork. This was followed by a game of dodge-ball. During the evening 3cout P. Everiss was presented with his swimmer’s badge and Scout D. Smailie was presented with his cyclist’s badge. The meeting closed at 9.15 p.m.
