From Our Own correspondent. Football Club.

Mr W. J. Osborne presided over a good attendance of players and supporters at the annual meeting- of the Apiti Football Club on Wednesday evening. Those present stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mr W. McKenzie, patron of the club, who passed away last year. The report and balance sheet presented by the secretary, Mr H. G. Mapson, showed that interest had been maintained in the various senior and junior competitions by the Apiti teams. The club finances revealed a successful year’s working. The election og ocers resulted as follows: Patron: Mr G. Cowan; president, Mr W. J. Osborne; vice-presidents, Messrs W. H. Watson, A. E. Prujean, A. R. McNae, R. V. Stewart, J. R. Strachan, C. A. Spence, W. McKenzie, W. McKay, J. Caw'ood, R. Muir, T. K. McLean; secretary, Mr M. McKay; assistant secretary, Mr F. Viles; delegates to sub-union. Messrs C. Spence and D. McKenzie; management committee, president, secretarv. coach, captains and vice-captains of both senior and junior teams: soie selector, senior team, Mr Don McKenzie; coach. Mr W. C. McMillan; manager, Mr J. R. Strahan: manager, selector and coach for junior team, Mr C. Spence; social committee, Messrs C. H. Osborne, M. McKav and V. McKenzie: referees. Messrs A.. W. Bird, H. A. Wildbore and C. H. Osborne. \ | senior and junior team will be entered for Union competitions. There will be a practice at the Domain next Saturday afternoon. As the floodlights are readv for use, an evening practice will be held on the following Tuesday. Friendlv games are to be arranged with Feilding and Rangiwahia teams. Messrs W. J. Osborne, H. G. Mapson, M. McKay and R. Muir have presented two new footballs to the club. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring secretary, Mr H. G. Mapson, and also to Mrs Mapson, whose services to the club during her husband's term of otfice as secertary, have been greatly appreciated by members. Mr J. R. Strahan was also thanked for his services. The chairn]3n. voiced his thanks to all the club officials for help and co-operation in the interests of the club during the past year.

National Party. Mr H. C. Mclntyre presided at a meeting- of the Apiti branch of the National Party on Friday evening-. Messrs Ij. A. Guy and B. Waterson were chosen as ■delegates to attend a meeting in Feilding next week.

Mffs E. Miller was in the chair at the meeting of lady supporters of the National Party on Friday evening, when Mrs J. H. Williamson addressed those present, urging them to form a committee to further the interests of the party. Miss Cousins, secretary of the Feilding ladies’ branch, accompanied Mrs Williamson. After some discussion it was decided to form a local ladies’ committee, and the following were elected: Mrs T. H. Purnell (president), Mrs B. Flavell (secretary). Mesdames F. Miller and H. C. Mclntyre (vice-presi-dents). The committee comprises Mesdames W. Digby, A. Doughty, J. Pettigrew, J. D. Kilgour, and Mesdames W. McKay and H. H. Jensen, subject to their approval.

Mr H. C. Mclntyre presided over a wellattended public meeting and introduced Mr J. G. Cobbe, M.P., who addressed the gathering of matters of political interest, principally as affecting the primary producers. Mr Cobbe expressed his thanks to Apiti electors who in the past had given him very solid support on voting day. Mr W. McKay proposed a vote of thanks to the speaker for his interesting address, and Mr Cobbe thanked the chairman. Mr Mclntyre. Suppei was served by the ladies.

On Saturday, members of the Umutoi Club were guests of the Apiti Tennis Club for a friendly match. The local players, who won the match, were Mesdames J. D. Kilgour, J. R. Osborne, A. W. Bird. Miss Osborne, Messrs J. R. Osborne, J. Kilgour. Tom Osborne, Don Stewart. A. W. Bird, and W. H. Watson. Afternoon tea was served by the Apiti lacues.

The Harvest Festival of the Apiti Presbyterian Church was celebrated on Sunday afternoon with a special service conduvted by the Rev. L. J. Hodson. The church had been attractively decorated with the harvest offerings of flowers, fruit and vegetables. Special hymns were sung by a large congregation.

Mrs 11. Hawthorn and Miss Hunter, of Auckland, are the guests of Mrs Arthur Prince. Mr Sim, of Raetihi, spent the week-end in Apiti with Mr and Mrs J. R. Osborne.

Mr G. E. Prince, one of Apiti’s highly esteemed early settlers, has been enjoying an extended holiday here, visiting his relatives and old friends, and is now staying with Mr and Mrs Alfred Prince.

Miss Molly Harland has returned home after spending five weeks’ holiday in Christchurch as the guest of Mr L. A. Whitmore.

Miss Madge McKay is at present in Auckland.

21st. Birthday,

Mr John Mclntyre, of Whatatutu, Gisborne, visited his grandmother, Mrs G. Duncan, of Apiti, on Friday, and as he was to be 21 on the following day, several relatives were invited to a luncheon party in honour of the occasion. The handsome birthday cake, made by Mrs A. T. Mcln-
