The final match in the Guy Cup competition was played on Saturday afternoon, when Halcombe and Beaconsneld, who were level in points, played off at Cheltenham. The result was a win for Beaconsfieid by 10 sets 77 games to 6 sets 62 games. At the conclusion of the games the Halcombe captain, Mr M. C. Amadio, congratulated the Halcombe team on its meritorious win. He was satisfied that they were too good for his team. The speaker also paid tribute to Mrs Sinclair, of the Cheltenham Club, who had kindly taken charge of the afternoon tea arrangements. Replying, Mr G. Coggin, captain of the winning team, thanked the previous speaker for his remarks and expressed the appreciation of both teams, of the Cheltenham Club's action in placing its courts at their disposal. Cheers for both teams concluded a very interesting tennis season. The tennis match arranged with Sanson for the week-end, did not eventuate owing to Sanson encoutering transport difficulties. The club championships, which must be concluded by April 10, are now nearly completed. Winter Sports. Although the weather continues to be hot and dry, the various clubs have commenced training operations. Both football and hockey clubs have held successful and well-attended practises. The newly-formed Golf Club promises to be tlie star attraction for the coming winter. There is already great enthusiasm being displayed, and over the week-end numbers of new players have been trying out their clubs. Birthday Party. Mr and Mrs J. Gotty’s home was the! scene of a bright and happy party a few* nights ago, when a number of friends were present for the occasion of little George Gotty’s second birthday. After a very pleasant evening Mr N. Kane, speaking on behalf of the Maori visitors, thanked the host and hostess, Mr C. .J. Scott performing a like duty for the pakehas. Residents of the district are reminded of the. Women’s Institute birthday dance and “500” tournament to be held this evening. Full particulars are advertised in to-days “Times.”
