Manawatu Heads
From Our Own CorresuondenL The hot, though windy week-end again brought crowds to the seaside. An exceptionally high tide on Sunday made bathing possible on the ri»er-front for the greater part of the day. Crowds visited the ocean beach where the wind was strong and the breakers very rough, but for those who did not mind being buffeted, bathing was pieasui*able. The news that a launch was in distress outside the bar having become known per medium of the radio, car traffic on the beach was heavy, crowds making the signal station their objective, to gaze out over the mountainous seas at the little craft. Even after darkness tell, the hill was thronged by an interested and curious crowd, which watched the attempts to signal the launch from various points along the beach, and iroin the signal station flagstaff. , . ... Given fine weather, Easter week should provide a notable wind-up to a record season for Manawatu Heads. Houses lor that date are all booked up, so that a good attendance at the -various, entertainments is assured if the weather behaves. Demonstrations by the local club, in conjunction with the Wanganui Surf and Life Saving Club, of all classes of their work, on Easter Sunday, should be an attraction. The public will then see for themselves what the Surf Club’s activities are, why the drive for funds is very necessary, and that their contributions will be well spent. These events will probably mark the close of the season for the club.
