From Our Own Correspondent. Defence Rifle Club.

Members of the Ashhurst Defence Rifle Club tired a practice shoot over the 200, 300, and 500 yards ranges under service conditions. A strong front wind made shooting conditions very difficult. The outstanding score of the day was 99 by J. B. Searle, which included a possible at 200 yards. Following are the individual totals:—J. B. Searle 99, R. A. Jones 90, M. Hausmann 90, C. W. Turner 89, K. Bassett 89, F. Bassett 88, J. Mclntyre 84, W. N. Brewer 76, C. Ralph 63, F. Crisp 62. Next Saturday the first shoot of the service championships -will be fired. Ladies’ Guild. There was a large attendance at the meeting of the Ashhurst Methodist Ladies’ Guild on Friday afternoon. The Rev. Foston expressed his appreciation of the work which is being rendered to the church by these ladies. A pleasant feature of the afternoon was the presenting of a bouquet to Mrs Holdcroft, who was celebrating the 50th. anniversary of her wedding day. The bouquet was the work of Mrs Alan Currie, to whom a vote of thanks was accorded. An afternoon gathering is to be held at the residence of Mrs J. H. Sumner at an early date. Hostesses at this meeting were Mesdames Shaw and T. Paton. Personal. Miss Gladys Jepson is the guest of Miss M. Wilkin, of Bunnythorpe road. Mr and Mrs Fred Colson, former residents of Ashhurst, now of Putaruru, are visiting Mrs W. Tremewan, of Bunnythorpe road.
