Cricket in Manawatu
MATCHES AT EASTER JUNIORS TO PLAY HASTINGS Mr. A. M. Ongley presided at the meeting of the Manaw’atu cricket executive last evening, and others present were: Messrs. G. Griggs, E. J. Werry, J. Gallichan, D. Jones, J. R. Hardie, H. von Sturmer, C. Eglinton and R. A. Brace (secretary).
A telegram was received from Hastings to the effect that a junior representative team would be available for a match at Palmerston North on Easter Saturday and Monday and asking if a game could be arranged. The secretary stated he had been in communication with some of the junior players who had stated a match with Hastings could be arranged.
It was decided that the fixture be approved.
The chairman stated that Hawke’s Bay had asked for a senior team to play in their centre, but Manawatu had been unable to undertake the trip. In regard to the nets, the secretary was instructed to have them repaired and coated with preservative before next season.
The chairman remarked on the very keen competition in the senior A and senior B grade competitions and he moved that the association's congratulations be extended the winning team. There will be two games in Palmerston North during Easter. The Goldfinch and Cousins Cup match will be played at the Sportsground and the game against the Hastings juniors at Terrace End Park.
