STORE SHEEP SALE

Easier Market at Stortford From Our Own Correspondent. HASTINGS, Last Night. An easier market ruled for store sheep at Stortford Lodge to-day, when all sections except lambs in good order were quieter. There was a marked lack of activity in the selling, and much tim« was lost in getting starting bids. Well-grown shorn white-face wether lambs, in sound order made 17/-, and the best woolly lines brought from 17/to 18/-. Poorer sorts, slackened off, the best of the?'* “•"king 14-/-. The yarding to-day was much smaller than usual, there being only 5000 penned, as against over 20,000 at recent sales. Wethers predominated the yarding, and the outstanding line was on account of Maunganui Station, Te Pohue, which brought 24/-. A small line on account of Mr John Tait, of Waikare, in very forward order, made 24/8. Several lines of wethers were of medium frames and not forward to range from 21/- to 22/3. The inquiry for these to-day was restricted and in consequence the selling was quiet. Breeding ewes attracted little interest, due partly to the lines offered being poor mouthed and in very poor condition. Realisations were as follow: Down from Sherenden 163 six and eight-tooth ewes, including a few five-year-olds (r.w. S.D. February 10) poorly mouthed, a very mixed lot with several small sheep and hard mouthed sorts, were passed at 16/9. In from Fernhill, 198 early-shorn, medium to well-grown two-tooth wethers, in good condition and carrying a good slipe, were passed at 22/6. On account of Maunganui Station and off high country, 222 two, four and six-tooth well-framed early shorn wethers, in good store condition, sold at 24/-. On account of Mr. Frank Hildreth, Mangawhare, 320 medium-framed twoand four-tooth wethers, late shorn and in sound condition, were passed at 22/3. On account of Mr. Ken Harris, Eskdale, 134 well-grown shorn whiteface wether lambs, in good store condition, healthy wet the market at 17/-. An entry of 117 small-grown woolly whiteface wether lambs, in poor condition and requiring dosing, were anything but attractive to pass at 13/7. Down from Patoka, 157 mediumgrown two-tooth wethers, including several small sheep, late shorn and in medium condition, sold at 22/1. A line of well-framed six-year ewes, fair mouths, (r.w. S.D.) were passed at 16/-. On account of Mr. A. Brown, Eskdale, a line of medium-grown, wellwoolled whitefaced wether lambs, in good store condition, sold well at 18/1. A line of aged ewes, in very light condition, a useful fattening line, sold at 11/4. On account of Mr. John Tait, Waikare, a line of well-framed earlyshorn wethers, very forward order and should command premium rates for the winter trade, sold at 24/8. On account of Mr. A. Brown, Eskdale, a line of five-year ewes, sound mouths and carrying a good slipe, were passed at 20/6. A further entry of early shorn wethers on account of Mr. John Tait, of Waikare, fairly framed and in sound good store condition, sold at 23/-. On account of Mr. K. Harris, Eskdale, 65 medium-grown shorn whitefaced ewe lambs, in bright, healthy order, a few being on the small side, sold at 20/-.
