Halcombe

From Our Own CorresDondent. Golf Club Forrmsd. There was a good attendance on Monday evening, when a meeting was held to consider forming a golf cluo in Halcombe. Mr E. W. Cowdrey was elected to the chair. He said that although golf was a well established game Iri this 'community, it had not by any means reached the peak of its popularity and it behoved Halcombe sportsmen to keep up with the times. Mr Cowdrey pointed out that many places smaller than Holcombe possessed flourishing golf clubs and many of theSe had'to pay for the use of the land. Due to the generosity and enthusiasm of Mr R. J. Managh, the club would have at its disposal an excellent property, free of charge, for at least the first two seasons. Mr Cowdrey then introduced Mr J. R. Galloway, the golf professional of Palmerston North. Mr Galloway informed the meeting that he had inspected the property and stated that he was impressed by the natural features of the proposed lourse. He was certain than an excellent 9-hole course could be laid out ror a very small cost and that in view of. Mr Man--agh’s generosity it would be very cheap to maintain. On the motion of Mr M. C.

Amadio, seconded by Mr G. Nicol, It was agreed that a club be formed. The election of officers resulted: Patron: Mr R. J. Managh; president. Mr E. W. Cowdrey; vicepresident, Mr A. L. Dernier; secretary and treasurer, Mr M. C. Amadio; club captain, Mr G. A. Nichol; committee, Messrs .1. O’Sullivan, E. R. Long, D. C. Managn, and one other to be elected. The meeting decided that Mr Galloway be asked to map out the course the next day, in order that a start might be made as soon as possible. The club will probably commence operations early in April.
