A party of the United States Navy’s submarine force has been ordered to Alaskan waters to augment the proposed fleet air base at Sitka, on the northern tip of the navy’s Pacific defence triangle. The tender Holland is accompanying the submarines. It is understood the navy is also preparing to establish bases at the Kodiak and Amalnak islands in the Aleutians, almost within sight of Asia.
