Coming-of-age Party
MISS JOAN NORTHEY HONOURED
A number of friends and relatives met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. Northey, Ferguson street, on Thursday evening, to wish their only daughter Joan “many happy returns of the day,” the occasion being the attainment of her majority. • Dancing on the lawn and novelty games and competitions made things go with a swing. A number competition was won. by Miss Z. Duggan; “advertisements,” Miss E. Christian; and a tortoise race by Mr. G. Nicholls. The supper table was loaded with good fare and centre# by a handsome cake bearing the traditional number of candles. During supper Mr. Northey, in a happy little speech, presented his daughter with the “key of the door” which was afterwards signed by all present.
The toast to the guest was proposed by Mr. C. F. Spooner, her grandfather and Mr. D. Kilgour responding on behalf of Miss Northey. Among the handsome presents that Miss Northey received was a fur coat jfrom her parents, and a gold wristlet watch from her grandparents. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Spooner (grandparents), Mr. and Mrs. B. Spooner, Mr. and Mrs. J. Spooner, Mr.. and Mrs. J. Hepworth, Mrs. A. Ferguson, and Misses L. Ferguson, M. Hancox, E. Polglase, Z. Duggan, E. Christian and Messrs. A. Fisher, G. Nicholls, A. Northey, R. Northey, D. Kilgour and D. Voss.
