Shannon Branch Of Mothers’ Union
The monthly meeting of the Shannon branch of the Mothers’ Union was held on Wednesday afternoon and was presided over by Rev. E. W. Burgin, there being a fair attendance of members. Rev. E. W. Burgin introduced Miss Horner of the stpff of the Truby King Harris Hospital, Dunedin, who gave a talk on the work as carried out in that training school for nurses. In the course of her remarks she said that delicate babies are taken from birth up to the age of two years. Very often they are accompanied by the mothers in the case of very young babes, who stay for a short period and receive instruction in the care and handling of them. Medical indents also spend a week there for practical purposes and receive tuition, even in the bathing of the babies. The Truby King Harris Hospital is the only training centre in New Zealand for Plunket nurses, sixty being, trained every year. Every eighteen months, that is the time required to train Karitane nurses, fifteen receive their training. Miss Homer was heartily thanked for her talk following which.. Mesdames Waring Taylor, Pope and Murray handed .round afternoon tea.
