Halcombe

From Our Own Correspondent. Tennis.

The committee meeting of the Tennis Club was presided over last week by the president, Air E. W. Cowdrey. A letter irom a Wanganui club offering to journey to Halcoinbe for a friendly match over th 3 week-end, was read. The offer was ac-

cepted for March 16. A number of minor repairs and improvements were reported to be necessary and it was decided to obtain an estimate of the cost from a local contractor. The meeting decided to play week-end matches against Alangamutu and Sanson. With regard to the combined doubles tournament, which was commenced several weeks ago, it was decided that if it were not concluded by the end of February, the tourney ssould be abandoned. Those players who are still in the tourney should therefore endeavour to play their matches at once. The club captain, Air Al. C. Araadio, suggested that the club hold senior and junior club championships this season. The suggestion was adopted, it being decided that the first eight players on the ladders compete in the senior championship and that all other players be eligible for the junior championship. Trophies will be presented to the winners of tire championships. The suggestion of Air J. O’Sullivan, that an honours board be procured, was also approved. This, the speaker explained, would be a permanent record of the names of club champions. The Guy Cup matches set down for last Saturday were not played, on account of the inclement weather, but a team of 16 players journeyed to Alangamutu to play a return match with that club. An enjoyable day was spent by all concerned, the visitors being royally entertained. The home team had rather an easy win. Personal and General. Air and Airs G. Nlchol and their son, Barry, are at present spending a holiday at Alanawatu Heads. The friends of Mrs K. Anderson will regret to learn that she has been confined to her bed for some days. All will wish her a speedy return to health. Aliss Iv. Cleland was a week-end visitor to Carterton. Halcombe and district residents are reminded of the "Pirate and South Sea Island" dance to be held to-night (Wednesday), by the Young Farmers’ Club and the Junior W.D.F.U. There will be cards for non-dancers. Full deatils have been advertised in the "Times."
