Following the recent warm rains, mush100ms have made their appearance in the district. Rabbits are increasing at a gTeat rate throughout the district, and it is not unusual to see as many as 100 on a short run during any fine evening. If skin prices are reasonable, rabbit trappers should have a bumper season. Once again shags are appearing in large numbers on the Mangatainoka river, as many as forty being seen in one mob. Several local sportsmen are preparing for a raid on the rookery on the Alangahao river at an early date. These periodical raids check the increase of shags to a large extent and no doubt save many a trout from the ravages of these birds.
