From Our Own correspondent. The parents of Messrs Archie Cowar. and Alan Viles, who are at present In Australia with the N.Z. Young Farmers’ stock judging team, have received letters from the boys reporting them to be good sailors whog reatly enjoyed the trip to Australia and also the day spent in Sydney before leaving that centre for Adelaide. Mr Howard Viles, of the Apiti Young Farmers’ Club, won first prize in the sheep judging competition arranged for members of the Young Farmers’ Clubs, at the Marton Show. The friends of Mrs Le Quesne, of Ridge road, will regret to learn thatshe has reenter the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment. Mr and Mrs L. A. Martin and Noel, are holidaying at Eastbourne, Wellington. Rev. R. Coombridge and Mrs Coombridge are spending a few days in Wellington. Anglican Guild. The Anglican Ladies’ Guild met at the home of Mrs A. E. Prujean on Thursday afternoon. Also present were Mesdames C. M. Stanley (president). W. J. Viles (secretary), A. R. McNae, S. H. White, J. H. Cowan and Miss Stanley. Business in connection with the tea arrangements at the ewe fair were finalised and the president thanked all members and also Mr N. J. Viles and Miss Oakley, who had so willingly helped.. It was decided to provide teas on the next Apiti sale day. Mrs Prujean served afternoon tea and was thanked for her hospitality. W.l. Committee. The Apiti W.l. committee met at Mrs W. M Duncan’s residence on Thursday evening. Mrs A. W. Bird presided, and Mesdames J. F. Jensen. M. A. Harland, Geo. Watkins, A. W. Benseman, C. M. Stanley, Misses Stanley and Strahan were also present. Arrangements were made for the annual meeting. Mrs Barnicoat, of Kimbolton, is to conduct the election of officers. Mrs R. Coombridge and Mrs J. Mapson have been cnosen as stewards for the aster competitions. The yearly competitions points prize is being donated by Mrs H. L. Osborne, and the prize for the most competition entries during the year has been given by Mrs Bird. The president thanked the committee members for their loyal co-operation during the year. Mrs Stanley voiced the thanks of the committee to Mesdames Bird, Harland and Jensen for their services in the interests of the Institute. Hostesses for next meeting will be Mesdames J. R. Osbornue, H. L. Osborne, A. E. Prujean and C. Stanley. After the meeting the hostess was thanked for entertaining the committee at supper. Sheep Dog Trials. A fairly well attended meeting of those interested in the Apiti sheep dog trials was held at Mr F. Munro’s residence on Saturday evening. Mr Munro was elected to teh chair and voiced the sincere regret felt by all interested in the sheep dog trials, in the loss of the late Mr H. J. Duffy, who had given much of his time to interest local young farmers in sheep dog trials. All stood in silence as a marie of respect to his memory. It was decided to hold the trials on March 12 next, subject to this date being suitable to the judges,. Messrs Stewart Bros., of Waiata. The following committee are to make the necessary arrangements: Messrs F. Munro, T. Osborne. E. Osborne. M. Jacobs, G. Burton and Hugh CQwan. The Johnston silver challenge cup, formerly held by the late Mr H. J. Duffy, is for the open long head competition. Mr E. Osborne is donating a cup for the maiden long head, and another trophy has been promised. Mr S. J. Strahan has again placed the grounds used for the past two seasons at the disposal of the trials committee. The Apiti Women's Institute is to be asked to do the catering. Mrs F. Munro kindly seerved supper. Another wet Saturday morning again caused the postponement of the combined Sunday Schools picnic, to the disappointment of many Apiti children. The ApitiRanglwahia Haythorne Cup tennis match was also postponed.
