Traffic That Chases a Fire Engine

DANGER EMPHASISED Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. Tho Dominion conference of tlie United Fire Brigades’ Association which opened at New Plymouth to-day, was described by the chairman, Superintendent Bennett, of Nelson, as the most important in tho history of the association. Many matters of importance t.o brigades throughout New Zealand would be dealt with in the next three days. A civic welcome was given this morning when speakers empnasised the great value of volunteer brigades to New Zealand. Mr. 8. G. Brnith, M.P., stressed that extra Government assistance should be given. Delegates present represent 130 brigades in all parts of the Dominion. A vital matter this morning was the question of control of traffic following lire engines, which was said to be very dangerous and inconvenient, particularly iu smaller centres. It was decided to make representations to the Government for an amendment of the traffic regulations to overcome the danger.
