CAULFIELD RESULTS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, Feb. 20. The weather was fine and warm and there was an excellent attendance for the Caulfield races. Mananui finished determinedly to win the Woodcliff Handicap. Avenger had every chance while Beaustone surprised wtih his effort. Le Grand and Old Rowley disappointed their Australian Cup admirers. Courage, who was purchased for twelve hundred guineas as a yearling, won the first race by capturing the first division of the St. Clair Trial in easy fashion. Luminaire and Laughing Light were unplaced. Ajax led always in the Futurity Stakes, a sterling performance being greeted with a wonderful ovation. Hua ran a good race but was no match for Aiax over this distance. The performance of the third horse Elgelea surprised the crow'd. Damalis ran a fair race while Pamelus disappointed and Gold Red ran poorly. In an exciting finish in the Hawksburn Handicap, Lolorua finished strongly. Pandava and Ena ra good races. ST. CLAIR TRIAL. First Division. COURAGE, 7.11 (H. Badger) .... 1 Fancifort, 8.0 (A. Breasley) 2 Petitbleu, 7.4 " Thirteen started. Won by three lengths; one and a-half lengths between second and third. Heiress was fourth. Time, 1.381. Second Division. CONDEVON, 7.11 (W. Cook) .... 1 Haughty Stare, 7.11 (J. O’Sullivan) 2 Whipstick Lad, 8.4 (W. Cox) .... 3 Thirteen started. Won by a neck; head between second and third. Mate o’ Mine was fourth. Time, 1.401. ALMA STAKES. MILDURA, 7.3 (E. Preston) .... 1 Early Bird, 8.0 (F. Shean) 2 Liana, 7.9 (A. Cooper) 3 Nineteen started. Won by half a head; three-quarters of a length. Tactical was fourth. Time 1.124. WOODCLIFF HANDICAP. MANANUI, 8.3 (F. Shean) 1 Avenger, 8.10 (D. Munro) ...... 2 Beaustone, 7.11 (K. Voitrc) 3 Twelve started. Won by a neck; one and a-quarter lengths. Dolphin was fourth. Time, 2.171. FUTURITY STAKES. AJAX, 9.6 (H. Badger) I Hua, 9.6 (R. Wilson) 2 Algelea, 8.5 (A. Breasley) 3 Nine started. Won by one and a-half lengths; threequarters of a length between secolid and third. Damalis was fourth. Time, l.zff. STANLEY STEEPLECHASE PICADER, 10.10 (W. Lee) 1 Conde, 10.11 (J. Regan) ........ 2 Kingrove, 10.1 (W. Cutler) ...... 3 Thirteen started. Won by a head; three an a-half lengths. Wakerife was fourth. Time, 3.51. HAWKSBURN HANDICAP. LELERUA, 7.5 (J. O’Sullivan) .. 1 Pandava, 7.6 (H. Olsen) ........ 2 Ena, 7.11 (H. Morris) 3 Eighteen started. Won by a neck; half a head between second and third. Finch was fourth. Time, 1.11. DEMONSTRATIVE CROWD Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 20. The crowd at Canterbury Park races on Saturday vigorously hooted After Six who won the Canterbury Handicap after being unplaced in a much weaker field at Rosebery on Wednesday. Viceroy won the Ashbury Handicap in which Housemaster was unplaced. Bengal Lancer was unplaced in the second division of the Highweight Handicap.
