Bush Fires in Wake Of Heat Wave
TOWNSHIP THREATENED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 11.35 p.m. MELBOURNE, Feb. 20. For the seventh day in succession the temperature was over 90, reaching 100 to-day. Bush fires broke out in many parts. The worst was at Belgrave, a popular hill resort 25 miles from the city. The fire had a wide front and swept a large area, destroying several houses. Hundreds of volunteers battled with the flames in the fierce heat and many were exhausted, but they succeeded in diverting the fire away from Belgrave township.
