Murder and Suicide
TRAGEDY IN MELBOURNE United Press Association —By Elec trio Telegraph.—-Copyright. Received Sunday, 11.35 p.m. MELBOURNE, Feb. 20. In view of witnesses in rooms in adjoining buildings a woman was murdered by her husband, who afterwards suicided. The victim was Maude Foley, 47, and her husband was ' Frederick Augustus Foley, 57, caretaker of the Bourke street branch of the State Savings Bank. Mrs. Foley’s screams attracted the attention of occupants of the rooms who saw through an open window Foley attacking his wife with a razor. A daughter rushed to her mother’s assistance and found the Foleys struggling with a razor. Mrs. Foley, who was terribly injured, collapsed and died. The daughter seized the razor and threw it downstairs. The daughter’s husband struggled with Foley, who, breaking away, got another razor and cut his throat and died.
Jealousy is believed to be the motive of the crime.
