From Our Own Correspondent. A meeting of the executive of the Marton Amateur Athletic Club was held on Wednesday evening when Mr C. C. McDonald presided. The selection of a team to represeent Marton at the West Coast Centre championships, to be held at Stratford on the 26tli. instant was referred to the chairman. Mr. Henderson, handicapper and the secretary, Mr A. M. Smart, with power to act. It was decided to present miniatures of the Atkinson Cup to the two winners in the junior section of the road racing and Chainey Cup cycling series. It was also decided to purchase gold buttons for presentation at a later daLj to the three life members of the club, Messrs M. Marr, A. Way and S. J. Gibbons. It was decided to hold a further series of three meetings for the Gaipin Cup, to commence this week. Point.-; prizes are to be allotted for running and cycling. Mr A. Way has presented r. prize for men’s running. Clearing Safe. An estimated attendance of more than 500 buyers from all over the North Island was present at the clearing sale of Mr T. T. Bartlett’s farm stock and chattels on Wednesday afternoon. Satisfactory prices were also made by plant and sundries. W.D.F.U. Flower Show. The Tutaenui branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its annual flower show on Tuesday last, when the hall was transformed by the many beautiful blooms exhibited. The dahlias in particular were exceedingly fine, of rich colouring and great size. The show was well patronised and all stalls and competitions received good support. The show was opened by Mr J. R. Lloyd Hammond, president of the Wellington provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union. He congratulated the prize-win-ners and also those who had contributed to the success of the show by competing. He also thanked the judge of the dahlia section, Mr J. Mason, for his talk on the origin and culture of dahlias. The results were as follow: Gladioli. (Judge: Mr Allan Gibson.)
