From Our Own Correspondent. Pig Club. At the monthly meeting of the local Pig Club there were present Messrs H. M. Mansell (chairman), W. A. Corry (secretary), P. R. Teague, W. M. Frecklington, J. Scott and F. J. Zajonskowslti. Mr E. F. Neilsen, the group supervisor, paid a- visit to the district during the week and had a discussion with club members. The secretary reported that a pedigree Tamworth boar had been secured from a well-known breeder and had been taken charge of by the club’s custodian. This pig should be the means of improving local pigs generally, as his litter full brother was champion at tlie recent Royal Show, and his daughter was champion at the Levin Show. The secretary reported that a Held day is being arranged at the freezing works, to see the killing operations and grading of pigs. It was also decided to spend an afternoon in company with Mr Neilsen in inspecting up-to-date pig farms In the neighbourhood of Palmerston North. A discussion took place upon the new grading regulations fur bacon. Members generally were of the opinion that all bacon should be sold to the consumers on the grade it receives at the works. Due notice will be given to members and local farmers on llio fixng of the date for the field day. Institute Picnic. The annual picnic of the local Women’s Institute was hold this year at the Palmerston North Esplanade. Before lunch a meeting of the Institute members was held. Owing to her impending departure from the district, Mrs Nelson Scott handed in her resignation. Mrs A. J. Will (president) spoke in eulogistic terms of Mrs Scott as a member and expressed thanks for the interest and ability she had shown in institute matters, and wished her good luck and happiness in her new home, airs Wills is not seeking re-election as president at the annual meeting, which is to be held on March 8. At the conclusion of the meeting, lunch was served under the trees. Visitors were present from nearby Institutes and the large attendance viewed with interest the beautiful surroundings. Competitions were lieid during the afternoon, resulting as follows: Chain stepping, ladies, Mesdames E. J. Rose and 1-i. Maxwell tied, ilie former being the ultimate winner; men, air W. Burne; clothes pegging, ladies, Mrs Edgar Ingram; men. air Scott; three-legged race, Misses A. Teague and M. Powell. The Institute desires to thank the following for donating prizes: Mesdames A. J. Will, W. Sandercock, P. T. Scott, aiisses N. Clare and M. Will. Afternoon tea was served under the trees. Personal. The friends of air H. J. Kirkham will regret to learn that owing to ill-health ; he is giving up his business and leaving the district, and will probably return to Hawke’s Bay. Mr Kirkham leaves behind him a host of friends who will wish him better health for the future. air and airs Clifton Beiliss, of Caetlepoint, Masterton, were visitors to the district this week on their way to Wellington. Miss Keih, of aiasterton. has returned home after visiting friends In the district. Life Saving Club. District residents will bo pleased to learn j that the efforts of the local lads who comprise the Tangimoana Life Saving Club are being recognised. Advice has been received that the aianawatu County Council has granted £5 towards the erection of some suitable shelter on the beach, on condition that the balance of the money required is raised. This donation Is thankfully acknowledged by the club and has prompted further activity amongst club members. Mr S. Quinlan, a former resident of this district, now residing in Rotorua, was a visitor to .the district last week-end. Mr “Billy” Quinlan has left the district to reside in Rotorua. He was very popular with the young men of the district and will be greatly missed.

Mr and Mrs W. J. Frecklington, whol have resided in this district for over 171 years, will shortly be leaving to reside in Palmerston North. Mr Fracklington is re-| tiring from active work, and his farm is. being taken over by Mr W. M. Freckling-' ton. Mr and Mrs Frecklington will be greatly missed, as they have proved wonderfully good settlers who have given great assistance to local activities.
