From Our Own Correspondent. Recently Miss Nira Clapham was hostess at an enjoyable party at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs VV. G. Clapham, given in honour of her guest. Miss Beryl Gibbons, of Carnarvon. Games and dancing, interspersed with musical items, occupied the evening. Songs were rendered by Miss Jean Tappin and Mr Peter Keith, and pianoforte solos by Miss Nancy Gibson and Mr John Barnicoat. The music for the dances was played by Mrs C. L. Williams and Mrs Barnicoat. On Saturday afternoon Kiwi tea experienced an unusually severe storm, thunder and lightning being almost continuous for half an hour. Durig a period of forty minutes, 3-42 inches of rain was recorded at the Kiwitea school. School Affairs. A meting of the school committee was held last week, there being present Messrs T. E. Craine (chairman), C. L. Williams, C. B. Clapham, K. W. Clapham, L. Clapham and the teacher (Mr C. H. Meads). The Education Board reported that Miss E. Sinclair, of the staff of the Russel! Street school, Palmerston North, was to commence duties at Kiwitea on February 14, until a permanent appointment can be made, the school having risen in grade with the addition of children that are being conveyed from Ridge Road and Te Awa districts to the school. Mr C. L. Williams (secretary) reported that a tender had been accepted by the Wanganui Education Board for the installation of the radio set recently purchased by the committee for the school. Mr I. W. Mudford, a member of the Education oßard. had visited the school and was met by members of the committee, who discussed with him the possibility of improving the school’s playing area. Advice has been received that the Education Department has approved of a grant to cover the cost of installing a hot water service In the school residence. Approximately 70 entries have been forwarded for the various events in the Kowhai sports, which are to be held on March 12. The annual meeting of the Kimbolton Golf Club was held last week, when it was decided to hold the opening day for the 1938 season on Saturday, March 12.
