Breathing Space for London’s Population
PROVISION OF GREEN BELT (British Official Wireless.) Received Friday, 6.30 p.m. RUGBY, Feb. 17. In connection with the provision of London’s green belt, the Surrey County Council is endeavouring to preserve from extensive change the crest and southern slopes of the north downs. Five thousand acres running on the highlands between Dorking and Guildlord, about one-fourth is represented by public commons, and the council hopes, by agreement with the land-owners, to keep a further 2000 acres free from building development.
