From Our Own Correspondent. The local school held it® annual picnic at Foxton beach on Friday in fine weather, there being a large number of residents present. The sports events resulted as follows; Girls, primers, S. McEwen 1, N. Hawke 2, E. Vickery 3; Stds. 1 and 2, V. Rowland 1, PI. McEwen 2. J. Hawke 3; Stds. 4,6, and 6, A. Rowland J, L. Richardson 2, kl. Rowland 3; boys, first race, G. McEwen 1, H. Loyer 2. K. Rowland 3; second race, D. Hawke 1, G. McEwen 2, K. Rowland 3; three-legged race, girls, B. Hawke and M. Rowland 1. L. Richardson and A. Ro\viand 2, V. and L. Rowland 3; boys, G. McEwen and R. Morley 1; boys’ wheelbarro w race, G. McEwen and R. Morley 1, lv. Rowland and PI. Lover 2; single men’s race, S. Rowland 1, I. Rowland 2, A. Nielsen 3. W.l. Meeting. The Tiakitahuna W.l. held their monthly meeting on Wednesday afternoon. There was a good attendance, and Mrs D. Rowland (president) welcomed the visitors. An interesting talk on her travels abroad was given by Mrs T. Rowland, of Longburn. As a mark of respect to the relatives of the late Mrs John McEwen, members stood in silence. In the vegetable competition Mrs Hawke was first, Mrs H. McEwen 2, Mrs Morley 3. Preliminary arrangements for the garden party were made. Thu, is to be held in tho beautiful grounds of Mr and Mrs J. A. Mitchell’s residence, “Santa Rosa,” Longburn. The hostesses, the Misses Hearsey, served afternoon ten. A meeting of parents was held in the school on Monday night to discuss important matters concerning the future of the school. Messrs Oram and Mudford, members of the Education Board, were present and Mr Oram consented to place the position before :he Board, it being the unanimous desire of tho meeting to retain the local school. Mrs Paul, of Wellington, and her two children, are staying with Mrs H. N. McEwen. The Misses L. and J. Hearsey, M. Rowland and I. Holder are spending a holiday at Paraparaumu beach.
