From Our Own Correspondent. Meeting of Park Board. Mr J. H. Perrett presided over a meeting of the Sandon Public Park Board, others present being Trustees H. J. Pagan J. C. Fagan and S.L. Orr (secretary). In reporting on the financial position, the secretary said that, including the balance in hand last year of £135 7s sd, the receipts to date totalled £215 11s 2d. Payments amounted to £72 11s 7d, leaving a balance in hand of £142 19s 7d. The recently appointed hall committee had paid in £9 4s 6d, and accounts totalling 12 6s 2d for improvements effected at the hall had been paid. The question of appointing a caretaker for the recreation grounds was discussed and it was decided to appoint Mr A. S. Reeve to the position if he was available. Mr J. C. Fagan, chairman of the hall committee, reported on the improvements carried out at the hall by the committee. He also raised he question of extending the hall by nine feet, and said that the committee proposed to canvass the district for funds to assist the project. Mr Fagan poined out that the Board had a good credit balance in hand and he wished to know whether the Board would contribute £75 towards the cost of the extension. The chairman said that he realised the necessity for the work, but he felt that the matter should como before a later meeting, when detailed estimates could be brought down and the whole matter could be gone into thoroughly. Mr H. J. Fagan agreed that the work was necessary and said that the board would be sympathetic towards the proposal. Mr Perrett remarked that it was very pleasing to learn of the good work being carried out by the hall committee, and he congratulated them on their result to date. Prior to the Park Board meeting, the Trustees of the Sandon Cemetery met. The secretary reported that the receipts including balance in hand last year of £62 5s Id, totalled £B7 7s 7d. and the payments amounted to £33 6s 2d, leaving a credit balance m hand of £54 Is sd. Mr J. H. Perrett, in referring to the matter of amalgamating the Cemetery Board with the Manawatu County Council said that the matter was progressing, but that certain details of the procedure were not yet available.
