Farnrars’ Union. The Opiki branch executive of the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting on February 14, Mr B. A. Norman presiding over a full attendance of members. A letter was received from the Provincial executive pointing out that the Noxious Weeds Amendment Act, 1934, imposed a continuous obligation upon the occupier of land on which ragwort is growing, to clear the weed from his land and to keep the land no cleared. The serving of a notice is not required before the serving of a prosecution. It was pointed out that a useful means of keepmg member® more in touch with Union activities would be the periodical issuing of something in the nature of a branch newsletter. The idea was accepted by the committee and the secretary was instructed to purchase a duplicator. A new concession to memDers and one which should be a strong inducement to non-members to join up, is the instituting; within the Manawatu Provincial district of a free legal service, particulars o:E which may be had from the branch secretary. It was decided to write to the Ma kirikiri branch offering support to their efforts to have Mr K. O. Montgomerie’s ideas of farm accountancy given full consideration by a select committee. He is to be asked to address a local meeting. Members took exception to the fact that no reply to the statement in the Press by the Manufacturers’ Federation following the Furniss—Nash debate, was made by the Union. It was resolved to inquire as to the reason on the part of head office-.
