A film record of tlie 44U yards filial at the Empire Games last Saturday reveals that Fritz (Canada) defeated Roberts (England) by inches. The judges placed Roberts first and Fritz second, Mr. J. Leslie, of Canada, who judged the first place in the event, admitted last night after seeing the pictures of the finish that he made a mistake. MANAGER PROTESTS AT EXAGGERATED REPORTS ACT OF RETALIATION SYDNEY, Feb. 17. The manager of the South African Empire Carnes team, Mr. Emery, has protested against the exaggerated reports of the incident on Tuesday night between members of his team and a coloured member of the Trinidad team. Mr. Emery said that in retaliation for an act by the Trinidad man a South African man had slapped his face.
