The Musical Education Of Caruso’s Daughter
“Caruso put me in absolute charge of the musical education of his daughter, Gloria, when she was eight years old, and she had a wxmderful talent,” said Mrs Lauri Kennedy, who arrived in Sydney recently with her husband, the world-famous cellist. Mrs Kennedy, as Dorothy Kennedy, is a famous musician herself, and she declares tnat John McCormack started her on her musical career. She has been accompanist for such celebrities as Caruso, Toti dal Monte, and Lucrezia Bori. “In addition to teaching Gloria, 1 used to take her to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she had her father’s box, to hear the operas she was studying,”, continued Mrs Kennedy. “Under Caruso’s will Gloria must spend six months of the year in Italy, and as I had to go to" England then I had to leave her. “I have with me a record which Gloria made, the only one there is, and it shows the possibilities of Gloria’s singing voice at the age of eight years,” she said.
