Popular Pahiatua Wedding

OLD ESTABLISHED FAMILIES UNITED

MILLS—BARRACLOUGH. Two popular young Pahiatua people. —Althea Joan Barraclough, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs F. F. Barraclough, and Alick, second son of Mrs and the late Mr J. MTns, were married at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Saturday evening. The church, tastefully decorated for the occasion by the bride’s friends, was crowded with friends and relatives of the contracting parties who displayed keen interest in the bridal group. Rev. A. A. Armstrong was the officiating minister and Mr Melville Pringle presided at the organ. The bride who was given away by her father, made a charming picture in her gown of white chantilly lace, slimfitting, with a rolled necklino finished with orange blossom, being buttoned to the waist at the back. The sleeves were full at the top and tight fitting to the wrist and a belt of self material finished the gown at the waistline. A long tulle veil with an attractive border pattern billowed from a dainty wreath of orange blossom and the bride carried a graceful bouquet of white Easter lilies, sweet peas and maidenhair fern.

Attending the bride were two prett.f maids—lsobel Barraclough, her sister, as chief, and Jean Evans, of Hawera (a friend) who were frocked alike in apple green ninon over satin slips with Peter Pan-collars finished with a row of buttons to the waistline and full puff sleeves. The bodices were prettily smocked in front and their skirts were fitting to the knees and flared, forming long graceful trains. Their hair bands were of delicate pink rosebuds and leaves mounted on silver bands. They carried bouquets of pink Easter lillies, pompom dahlias, sweet peas and maidenhair fern.

After the ceremony a reception was held at the Masconie hall where some 140 guests were received by Mrs Barraclough who was assisted by Mrs Mills tho former wearing a,#mart model frock of navy marocain with silk lace coatee with a scarlet shoulder spray. Her hat was of navy straw wreathed with scarlet flowers and she carried a bouquet of red dahlias and maiden hair fern. Mrs Mills chose a chic navy silk frock patterned with pink and a navy georgette redingote. She wore a navy hat and carried a bouquet of pink dahlias and maidenhair fern.

Mr P. R. Boagey presided at the reception where tho usual toasts were honoured and the chairman imparted some advice on marriage. The threetiered wedding cake made by ALr» Barraclough and iced by an uncle of the bride was greatly admired. Immediately after the marriage ceremony Miss D. Collister, of Napier, sang “My Prayer” and at the reception she gave a delightful rendering of “Bless This House.” Afterwards a dance was held in the Masonic Hall and the young couple left by car for Rotorua. The bride travelled in a bottle green pin striped tailored costume and wore an autumn felt hat of London tan, with shoes, blouse and gloves of matching colour. A fur stole and a toning handbag completed her toilette.

Mr and Mrs Mills whose future home will be in Pahiatua were the recipients of a fine array of beautiful wedding gifts. The bridegroom presented Miss Barraclough with a silver appointed cake stand and Miss Evans received a crystal powder bowl. The fur stole worn by the bride was a gift from the bridegroom. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a lucky white horseshoe by little Dorothy Greaves.
