Manawatu A. and P. Association

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE. v The genoral committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association met on Monday, Mr J. A. Russell presiding. The resignation of Mr T. A. Hastings as chief gate steward was accepted with regret and it was decided to place on record appreciation of his services. Mr C, V. Day was appointed to 'the vacancy. The president reported on tho recent visit of Dr. John Hammond, F.R.S., and it was resolved that Mr K. S. Glendinning (secretary of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association) bo thanked for acting as secretary to the combined committee which made the arrangements for the visit. Mr W. J. Croucher and Mr Harris are also to be thanked for their services in connection with bacon and pork judging. The resignation of Mr E. A. Sliand from the general committee was accepted with regret and appreciation of his services is to be placed on record. It was decided to hold tho grandstand gymkhana' on Saturday, April 9. The secretary said that inquiries had not been completed concerning the programme. On the recommendation of the treasurer, a special committee consisting of the president, treasurer and Messrs B. McEwan and M. A. Eliott was set up to go into the question of overhauling the system of issuing complimentary and privilege tickets and to report to the general committee, through the finance committee. It was reported that the farm committee had shown a profit of about £6O, which was highly satisfactory for a new venture. Tho committee was asked to cany on and re-stock when necessary. The secretary, in his report, stated: —“Since the holidays I have visited tho shows at Levin, Marton, Feildiug, Woodville, Dannevirko and Pahiatua, and on Wednesday I shall- attend the Marton Show where a meeting of secretaries of the Poverty Bay, Carterton and Manavatu Shows will be held to discuss a suggestion from Poverty Bay to start tho spring show circuit at Gisborne instead of at Hawke’s Bay. The various committees will, of course, make the final decisions. The date foi the annual ball is still the subject oi investigation, but probably May 20 is the most suitable time. Winter Show preparaions: The dairy section of thi schedule has been issued to factory managers. The general schedule will bo revised next month and issued in, April, by which time I hope also to have a tentative programme of ring attractions ready for approval.”
