MRS. ELEANOR COUTTS. News of the death of Mrs. Elcanoi Coutts, which occurred at her residence, 250 Main street, on Wednesday evening will be received with very deep regret by her many friends. Tho deceased lady, who was the widow of the late Mr. Joseph Coutts, x>a®sed away rather suddenly though she nad been in failing health for some time past. For over 42 years Mrs. Coutts had resided in Palmerston North, where she was very highly esteemed for her many good qualities, kindness of heart and generous outlook, beiug a strong supporter ol fc>t. Peter's Anglican Church, Terrace End, of which she was a devoted a\ierent. Born at West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England, she was a daughter of Mr. Joseph. Turvey, a theological student who founded the Benevolent Society —the first form of charitable aid organisation—in Birmingham. Her father died early and, with, her mother, she came to New Zealand as a girl, landing at Dunedin, where she was married to Mr. Coutts. Subsequently they came to the North Island, living first in Haw’ke’s Bay and then in Palmerston North, where Mr. Coutts died 35 years ago. Mrs. Coutts was a staunch member of St. Peter’s Church Ladies’ Guild and, during the Great War, took a prominent part in Patriotic Society efforts. There are six sons—Messrs. W. J. Coutts (Otahuhu), C. Coutts, F. Coutts, B. Coutts, W. W. Coutts (Palmerston North) and M. W. Coutts (Waitomo^ — and four daughters—Mrs. T. R. Moore, Miss M. Coutts, Mrs. H. S. Porteous (Palmerston North) and Mrs. H. Cripps (“Sevenoaks, ” Masterton). There are ten grandchildren and two great-grand-children. Following upon a service at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church to-day, the interment will take place at the Palmerston North cemetery, where the late Mrs. Coutts will be laid to rest beside her husband.
