No Top Hats
FUNERAL OF BANKER A farm-cart funeral, no mourning and no top hats were instructions in the £513,000 will of retired banker, Mr Hugh Gurney Barclay, squire of Coluey, Norfolk. His son, Evelyn, was asked to give £5 to the head of each cottage in tho parish. Mr Barclay made no charitable bequest becauso “so largo a proportion of my estate will be applied in the payment of duty." This amounted to £107,000. His remaining estate goes in family bequests. He was formerly vicechairman of Barclays Bank, Ltd.
