Second Day Fields Again Good

GOING LIKELY TO BE FASTER AT RICCARTON

Tlie weather was fine la Christchurch yesterday and reports lndlcato that the going will be good for the second day of the Christchurch Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting to-day. The principal events on the programme are the Grand National Hurdles and the JBeaufort Steeplechase, both of which are over a course of about 2.) miles, the Duke of Gloucester Cup for amateur riders, and tbe Islington Handicap. The fields are again good and splendid racing is assured. Horses likely to command respect are as follow:

The Hunt Cup Steeples: Royal Buck. Royston. Duke of Gloucester Cup: Shy, Metal Bird, Latitude. Beaufort Steeplechase: Royal Lirnond, Manawatu.

Woolston Hack: Matoru, Grey Honour, Fiord. G.N. Hurdles: Travelling Agent, Jolly Beggar, Ruaform. Sprevdon Hurdles: Saltspray, Havering.

Islington Handicap: Queen of Song, Adalene, Mount VaL August Handicap: Boomerang, Adalone, Metal Bird.

NEW SIRE FOR OKAWA t PURCHASE OF TIDERACE

Particulars of Lie stalliou recently purchased by Mr T. H. Lowry in England havo conic to hand. The new siro is tho four-year-old Tiderace, by Fair- • way from Panic, by nurry On from Volcanic. Tiderace started twice, unplaced, as a two-ycar-old and last year he was produced ten times, winning the Column Produce Stakes, for three-yeilr-olds, one mile, at tho Newmarket April meeting. The value of this race to the winner was £746. Tiderace was placed in two other races. He comes from the same family as Psychology, another of Mr Lowry’s imported sires. The great success of Fairway, who went to the stud only in 1931, and whose progeny up to the end of the Ascot meeting in June had won 50 races, valued at £62,724, will. make Tiderace a welcome addition to tho rapidlygrowing list of English-bred sires in the Dominion. SALE OF BENGAL LANCER It is reported that the price paid on behalf of Mr \Y. Cannon, a Queensland sportsman, for tho New Zealand colt.
