A card tournament to raise funds for the Anglican Church was held on Saturday evening with a very good attendance. The winners or prizes were: Crib, Mrs. Pemberton and Mr. K. Truman; euchre, Mrs. D. Thompson and Mr. S. McMiiian. The fortnightly euchre tournament to raise funds lor the school and hail was held at nuahine on Tuesday evening. Despite heavy rain tnere was a very fair attendance, winners being Miss J. McMiiian and Mr. JM. Amadio, first prizes, Mrs. G. Pearson and Mr. W. Wright second prizes. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Marun, who were married recently were tendered a housewarming on Tuesday evening, when those who braved the elements spent a very enjoyable evening. During the evening a presentation of a weather glass in recognition of his services to the football club was made to Mr. Martin. Valedictory. On Monday evening a larewell was tendered Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Haythorne, who have sold their farm and are leaving the district. At a suitable juncture Mr. D. T. Couper called upon the guests of the evening to accept a substantial cheque in recognition of the services both Mr. and Mrs. Haythorne had rendered Dy tneir support of both the bulb and March shows and the different sporting clubs. Mr Couper said Mr. Haythorne had been the founder of the bulb show locally, which event had always been an undoubted success. By giving trophies to both the tennis and golf clubs, the Haythornes had considerably enlivened interest in both these bodies. Mr. Couper wished them every success in their new venture. After being accorded musical honours, Mr. Haythorne responded. The evening took the form of a dance, music being played by the local orchestra. Mr. N. Say well .was M.C. A very pleasant evening concluded at midnight with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
