Dairymen Affirm Compensatory Price Principle

The National Dairy conference was concluded at Hastings to-day. The session dealt with remits concerning the uniform payout and a compensating price for produce, and addresses were given by Dr. 11. R. Whitehead on the work of the Dairy Research Institute at Massey College and by Colonel S. J. E. Closey, M.C., V.D., J.evin. The latter dealt with the question of a compensating price and the conference accepted the suggestion of the speaker to adopt the principle embodied in a remit, agreeing that it was an important point. It was decided that the next conference bo held at Hamilton.
The conference passed the following resolution: “That it be a recommendation from the conference that dairy suppliers confer with each other in then' respective districts with the object of determining on a uniform advance payment and a uniform amount to be retained to supplement suppliers during the winter months.”
The Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., moved the following remit which was carried: “That Lie only ccpiitable basis of payment for primary produce is to pay the producers a com peusatory price to cover the difference between the price level in the country in which his goods are marketed as compared with the price Jevel in the country in which the goods arc produced.”
