From Our Own Correspondent Herrington Golf Club. At the annual meeting-'of the Herrington Golf Club (Foxton) the balance-sheet showed a credit of £SO 6s. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr.' M. B. Bergin; captain, Mr. L. C. Bryant; secretary, Mr. ,T. Newton, semv, ground superintendent, Mr. R. Robinson; committee. Messrs D. R. Ogilvy, F. A. Mason and J. D. Purcell. It was decided that opening day be March 28, commencing at 1.30 p.m„ and it was decided that the form of play should be mixed foursomes. The' greens are in good order for play and there is every prospect of the club experiencing a record season this year. Personal. Miss M. Plealey, of Wellington, who has been spending a holiday in Foxton, left on Monday for the Chateau Tongariro. Mr. E. R. Booth has returned to Foxton from a week’s holiday spent on Kapiti Island. Mr. C. Davey, of Manawatu Heads, has left Foxton to reside in Taumarunui for some months. Mr. Alf. Walsh was a visitor to Foxton last week, lie left Palmerston North by Union Airways for Dunedin en route to Invercargill, on Saturday morning. At a meeting of football enthusiasts held locally last week Mr. F. Robinson announced his intention of retiring from active participation in Rugby control this season. He said that he intended to retain his connection with the Foxton Club, of which he has been president for many years, only until such time as it was on a sound financial footing again and then he would retire. Rugby would always have his support but he had had something like 30 years’ active association with the game and he felt that it was time he sat back and let a younger hand fill his position. The chairman of the meeting (Mr. M. E. Perreau) and Mr. D. Ellwood expressed the regret that Foxton and district would feel at losing Mr. Robinson’s services, Mr. Ellwood saying that he was a great sport and a man who had taken a very active part in the Rugby world. Harvest Thanksgiving. The local Methodist Church held its harvest thanksgiving services on Sunday last, When the church was lavishly decorated with flowers, greenery, and a fine display of fruit, produce, etc. The morning service was conducted by Rev. C. W. Brown and at the evening service the preacher was Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, this being the first occasion on which a Cabinet Minister has conducted a service in Foxton.
