Prom Our Own Correspondent. Hall Committee Meets. Messrs H. Gore (chairman) and A Crawford (secretary) represented the local hall at a meeting called to discuss with members of kindred hall committees the altering of tlio rules for trio euchre shield. 'Representatives from other hall 'committees wore: Kalra'nga, Messrs L. W Clark and G. Davey; Ashhurst, Messrs Raton, Woodrool’o and Maul; Kelvin Grove, Messrs S. Burr and D. Buchanan' Bunnythorpo, Mr J. Baker and Messrs Craig; Hhvinui, Mr Maul; Newbury, Messrs A, R. McCulloch and Hansen Aokautere representatives were unable to bo present. important changes were made. Tho annual meeting of the delegates is to be held in the Whakarongo Hall and each district is to be drawn at tho annual meeting for rotation of play. The euchre season is to commence on April 14 and close on August 31. All games are to be played within 14 days of the previous game, the winning team to notify the next challenging team on the list within threo days and reminding them to arrange the date for the tournament. Tho districts eligible for play are Ashhurst. Bunny.thorpe, Hiwinui, Newbury, Kairanga, Kolvin Grove, Aokautere, and the trophy is to be known as tho Whakarongo Perpetual Challenge Shield. The maximum number of players to be 40 and minimum 20 ot bo.th sexes. No one.person can play for two teams and each team has to appoint a scorer. There will bo nine games, each of eleven points. Tho name of each winner is to bo engraved once and a star affixed to signify each win thereafter, the star to bear the year date. Tho local secretary was instructed to notify committees of tho rules.

The influenza germ still takes toll of the district and the victims have been many. Tho school gardens are looking particularly neat at present, the grass being very green for this time of tho year. Mrs A. V. Lancaster and daughter, Betty, are To Awaihutu Visitors staying with the former’s parents, Mr and Mrs B. Vautier. There is a noticeable increase' in the number of weasels, hedgehogs and rats around tho district, especially felt where poultry and eggs are concerned. General and Personal. Over tho week-end the cricket team journeyed to Bunnythorpe where, after interesting play, the two teams drew for honours. The school road corner, scene of recent accidents, has been altered lately, the surface being raised. At present it is very rough, but when worked down will be a decided improvement. Mr. E. Badger, who has been on a visit in tho South Island, is returning home this week. . . Over tho week-end, a return match will bo played against Milson, when the team should be Mrs Oxenham. Misses . M. Play will commence early. Drama Club Meeting. The Drama Club held its annual meeting during the week, there being a very good attendance. The secretary, Mr E. Cater, who is giving up the duties as ho is leaving the district, presented the report as follows: "The club, though of comparatively small membership, has progressed during the year. Early in the year meetings for play-reading were held fortnightly, but with an increasing number of plays being rehearsed for production, time could not be' spared for them during several months and also, due to farming activities, the club went into racess from October to March. During the year five plays were produced, in addition to which work on "The’ Grand Cham’s Diamond” was- renewed and carried on for production at the drama festival of the North Wellington Group of Institutes where it mot with considerable success. Other plays produced were in aid of Whalcarongo and Kelvin. Grove Halls, health stamp campaign and-school-com-mittee funds respectively. The club acquired three more’ screens during .the year, making a full complement for any stage production. ' We commenced the year in a good financial position and although considerable, small properties have been acquired during the year the Institute still holds the sum of -30 s in trust for us.”' The new committee Is as follows: Mr A. Crawford (secretary), Mrs Morris (convener), AlFisses Vautier (producer), T. Newcombe, B. Radomski, Air J. Morris. Work will commence almost immediately on producing plays .. instead of holding play readings.
